Holiday Cleaning: Tips for a Guest-Ready Home

If you’re like me you do your most frequent (and might I say best) cleaning 15 minutes before a guest arrives, there is nothing quite like cleaning under pressure to get the job done! However, when the holidays come creeping in the day after Halloween we start to come to terms with the fact that the 15 minute scrub down and febreeze trick is not going to work on the in-laws.

I love the holidays, making memories, reconnecting with family and pretending like the calories don’t count when I’m on my third piece of pie. In addition, I love to host! Luckily for me many in my family dread having to host big family gatherings, especially during the holidays. I have to say there are many perks to hosting – for one, I am a type “A” personality so I’ll admit that I love having the final say as far as time and menu ALSO I can’t be late for an event that starts in my home. When you host you don’t have to worry about driving/sitting in traffic, leaving your pets at home and my personal favorite- you get the majority of the leftovers. The hard part of hosting? Prepping your humble abode for those holiday guests. It is just as important to have the right amount (and kind) of appetizers as it is to have a clean and welcoming home. Now, I am not saying you need to spend 8 hours cleaning your house, if that’s the case, let Aunt Wendy host! You can meet somewhere in the middle and have a clean house without going overboard. Follow these simple cleaning tips and get back to putting time into table settings and center pieces that will make your guests ooohhh and ahhhh!
